Meet Walter

Walter has been a registered nurse at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center for the past 32 years. He has primarily specialized in invasive and non-invasive cardiology during his nursing career. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, and is working towards his Master’s Degree.

Walter feels fortunate that he was able to begin his journey at Sarah’s House during it’s infancy, and tht he was able to participate in the fundraising and transformation of the physical structure that that he now has the pleasure to work in. Since then, he spends his volunteer time at Sarah’s House participating in a variety of tasks from cleaning rooms and helping at events, to spending many hours working in the memorial garden. Walter gladly accepted the opportunity to join the Board of Directors to help guide and support the vision of Sarahs’ House moving forward. Like so many people who have been affected directly by cancer, Walter lost his spouse a few years back. His spouse Andy was an active volunteer at Sarah’s House as well. After his spouse passed, Walter’s time at Sarah’s House took on a much more personal feel, as he now feels he understands the journey from a different viewpoint. Walter says “There is such a reward with knowing that you are providing support for those who are likely in the most vulnerable part of their journey with cancer. And it’s also so important for us to continue to provide support for the caregivers who care for those on their cancer journey.”

Walter currently resides in Bangor and enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren. His hobbies include outside activities, spending time in nature, and volunteering.
