Meet Cathy

Cathy grew up in Brooks, ME and attended Mt. View High School. After her husband Carl’s 4-year tour of Duty with the Navy, they moved to Ashland, ME in 1976 where they remained until July 2018.  Cathy graduated from Northern Maine Technical College with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration and Accounting. She worked in the Maine school system for most of her life including as an Administrative Assistant to the Principal for SAD #32 in Ashland, ME for 38 years prior to starting her job here at Sarah’s House in 2018.

Cathy’s introduction to Sarah’s House began in September of 2015 when her husband of 48 years had been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and his (their) cancer journey began.  They heard of Sarah’s House as a possible place to lodge and decided they should go find out more.  They made an appointment and met with Delores. Cathy says “There are no words for how we felt when we left Sarah’s House that day.  My husband took my hand and with tears in his eyes said did you feel that in there and I said with tears in my eyes that I most certainly did.”  They stayed approximately 180 nights over the next 3 years as Carl maneuvered through all of his treatments and surgeries needed.  Carl said other than home, Sarah’s House was the place he wished to be.  He told everyone about Sarah’s House and said Sarah’s House was as an important part of his care plan as his treatments.  Cathy states that “The sharing, comradery and love that we shared with other guests at Sarah’s House is hard to put in words.  We made lifelong friends who still keep in contact with me 6 years after Carl’s passing.” After the loss of Carl in October 2018, she began work in her present job at Sarah’s House as an Administrative Coordinator in November of 2018.  Cathy says, “It is a job I feel privileged and honored to have and my wish daily is to continue the mission of Sarah’s House and I hope people leave here at the end of their stays with the same wonderful feelings I have for Sarah’s House.”

Cathy lives in Bangor with her two Maine Coon kitties, Marley and Molly.  She has two children, and 4 grandchildren.  She is very close to her family and loves hosting family dinners at her house and spending as much time with them as possible.  She also enjoys making her way back up to the County when she can to visit her friends and enjoy some peaceful time on Portage Lake.
